07:07 pm - YouTube nostalgia trip... the Many versions of "Lanca Perfume".. part 2
Two years later.. Gloria sings a faster version of Baila Conmigo:
And she still sings it.. here as a medley with other Spanish songs..
Now, back to local singers.. Agot Isidro has her own version.. that goes back to the Portuguese original lyrics:
And 20 years after the original.. Rita Lee is singing an acoustic version with a different tempo:
I guess Lanca Perfume is here to stay!!
06:29 pm - YouTube nostalgia trip... the Many versions of "Lanca Perfume"
Ever had a song from the past stuck in your head and you had the urge to look it up on YouTube? Well somehow I got reminded of "Lanza Perfume" circa 1981... so I looked it up on YouTube and found this..
Yes, that was the song.. By Rital Lee...And it was in Portuguese.. but something about it didn't quite fit with my memory..
After a bit more searching I found this:
Supposedly by "Sherry Simons", it turns out "Sherry Simons" was a pseudonym used by Vicor Records for one of their local vocalists (Babsie Molina). Aha.. why didn't they just sell the original Rita Lee version? More money for them I guess..
Now.. in the related links, I found a version by Gloria Estefan (when she was still billed as Miami Sound Machine).. now in Spanish and title Baile Conmigo.. here's a live version where she sings with her cousin, Merci Navarro. (By the way, the tv host is the former Miss Universe, Marisol Malaret)
To be continued..

11:02 am - Recovering from disaster
On 29 October I checked our website www.chiirup.org.uk, to find that everything had been reverted to the state it was about a month before.
After some frantic emails and phone calls, we found out the hosting service had had a hard disk crash and that was the latest backup that they had.
There was an important webcast on 2 November and all the files I had developed for it had been lost.. and there was no backup!
Working frantically, I was able to restore it to the way it was by Halloween.
The webcast proceeded without further problems and at the end, everyone said it was well done.
Note to self: Always keep off-site backups!
